In this campaign, the contact starts in Start, and moves immediately to stage Waiting for a Birthday. When field BirthDate is not blank and the day is (within 7 days of) the BirthDate, the transition fires and sends the email BirthdayCard. The contact moves to stage SentBirthdayCard, and waits 8 days before going back to Waiting for a Birthday.
The reason for the 8 day delay is that within the precondition WaitUntilDate there is an option allowing the precondition to fire up to 7 days before the actual birthday -- that's so the email arrives well before the birthdate. The Wait 8 prevents the contact from getting back to the WaitingForABirthday stage before those 7 days have elapsed, and that prevents duplicate emails from being sent on those days. By the time the contact gets back to Waiting for a Birthday, those 7 days have gone by and the WaitUntilDate will not fire again (until next year).
